La batería Todt lleva el nombre de Fritz Todt. Era un general, pero sobre todo un ingeniero arquitecto del Tercer Reich, y un buen amigo de Adolf Hitler. Este último le confió en 1933 la realización de las autopistas en Alemania con el objetivo de reducir el desempleo.
En 1935 fundó una organización paramilitar: el OT (Organización Todt). Hizo que el O.T. construyera la Línea Siegfried con miras a la operación Seelöwe (la invasión de Inglaterra). Este proyecto fue cancelado en 1940 por Hitler, y así la Línea Siegfried fue transformada en parte de la línea de defensa del Atlantikwall.
El 8 de febrero de 1942, el Junkers JU 52 que transportaba al doctor Fritz Todt se estrelló de manera misteriosa durante el despegue. No hubo sobrevivientes. La batería Siegfried fue renombrada el 10 de febrero de 1942 como batería Todt en honor a su maestro constructor.
