Le crucifix en pierre bleue a été endommagé par les troupes françaises à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Après tout, pendant la Révolution française, tous les symboles chrétiens étaient tabous. À partir de 1795, les Cantons de l’Est, comme le reste de la Belgique, appartiennent à la République française. Weweler faisait partie du département de l’Ourthe, dont Liège était la capitale. Après vingt ans de domination française, les Cantons de l’Est sont annexés à l’Empire prussien lors du Congrès de Vienne en 1815.
