À gauche du canal se trouve la tour Stella Artois (AB Inbev), au milieu de la photo, l'immeuble social de Sint-Maartensdal.
La prieuré de Saint-Martin a été fondée par Willem van Sichem en 1408, utilisée par la suite par l'université pour des fins pédagogiques. En 1477, la communauté rejoignit les Chanoines régulier. Le domaine comprenait un monastère, une galerie monastique et une église gothique. La prieuré fut supprimée en 1784 et utilisée par la suite comme caserne et hôpital militaire. En 1803, l'église et une partie du complexe monastique furent démolies. Ce qui resta devint une caserne de cavalerie, qui à son tour fut détruite en 1960 pour laisser place à un immeuble social.
