La gare se situe à l'origine dans la commune de Mariendorf. En 1920, Mariendorf fusionne avec Berlin. En 1938, la gare passe dans le quartier de Tempelhof.
La gare est construite à l'intersection de la ligne de Berlin à Dresde et de la route reliant Lankwitz à Tempelhof. Elle remplace la gare Südende B. D. Les installations d'origine sont très simples. Dans la partie nord de la gare, il y a un aiguillage allant de la voie simple de Berlin à la voie double de Zossen. Au même moment, la voie ferrée du chemin de fer militaire fonctionne, mais ne touche pas la gare. En 1939, les voies de banlieue sont électrifiées.
