Cet obélisque est fabriqué en Blaustein de Walheim et a été érigé en 1810 (durant l'occupation française) en mémoire de Pauline de Borghèse, une sœur de Napoléon Bonaparte (qui s'appelle en réalité Charlotte). Elle a séjourné plusieurs années dans le monastère trappiste voisin de Bergerbusch.
Les obélisques étaient (déjà auparavant par les Romains) utilisés pour mesurer le terrain.
L'obélisque vieillissant a été entièrement rénové. Il constitue un point de vue impressionnant sur la ville d'Aix-la-Chapelle et le point de départ d'une promenade à travers la Wurmtal, Paulinewald et le Weißen Weg.
Lors de la rénovation euro-régionale en 2008, des sièges ont été installés évoquant une chaise longue sur laquelle le sculpteur italien Antonio Canova a représenté Pauline Bonaparte-Borghèse en Vénus.
