Wetterscheidt est situé au sud-ouest de Mertendorf à l'embouchure du ruisseau Neidschützer dans la Wethau.
Wetterscheidt faisait partie au XVIIe siècle des biens dispersés des Schenken de Tautenburg dans l'administration électorale de Weißenfels. Après la mort de Christian Schenk von Tautenburg, le village appartenait à partir de 1640/52 en tant qu'exclave à l'administration électorale de Tautenburg. Avec le Congrès de Vienne, Wetterscheidt est devenu en 1815 partie du district prussien de Naumburg dans la province de Saxe.
