Karel van de Woestijne nasce il 10 marzo 1878 in Sint-Lievensstraat 348, ora Sint-Lievenspoortstraat 264, "una strada ampia, vuota, pallida" ("Paidia"). Era il maggiore dei quattro figli del fabbro Alexander Joannes e di Antigona Sielbo.
Durante la Fiera del Libro del 1960, Miel Kersten ha rivelato per gli scrittori cattolici fiamminghi orientali una lapide in arenaria, scolpita da Volckaert di Gand: "In questa casa nacque il poeta Karel van de Woestijne il 10-3-1878."
