Gust Gils, 'L'urbanizzazione interiore'
Edificio neoclassico con ispirazione della rinascenza fiorentina (dell'architetto cittadino Louis Roelandt) nel luogo del vecchio monastero dei Recolletti, all'incontro tra Leie e Ketelvaart. La monumentale 'Salle des pas perdus' andò perduta nel devastante incendio del 1926. All'interno del percorso poetico simboleggia la difesa delle vittime e degli accusati.
Gust Gils (1924-2002) scrittore di prosa fiammingo, poeta e artista visivo. Co-fondatore della rivista d'avanguardia Gard Sivik. La sua opera è critico sociale, satirica e grottesca. Un campione della sua poesia in Il mio lavoro dimenticato dal dovere (1994), i suoi brevi pezzi di 'paraproza' li pubblicò in una settantina di libri. Premio triennale della Comunità fiamminga 1996.
