Il Gymnasium Carolinum di Osnabrück è considerato una delle scuole più antiche ancora esistenti in Germania. La sua fondazione nell'anno 804 risale secondo la tradizione a Carlo Magno. È nato come scuola del duomo e si trova ancora oggi nel centro di Osnabrück, proprio accanto al duomo. Attualmente, il Gymnasium ha un ramo scientifico-matematico, uno sociale, uno di lingue moderne e uno di lingue classiche.
