In de strijd tegen de wateroverlast te Zaventem werd op een terrein tegen de Grote Ring (omgeving H. Henneaulaan) een grote wachtvijver aangelegd.
De zone naast en rondom dit opvangbekken werd ingericht als wandelpark. Een circuit van wandelwegen geeft aansluiting op een pad rondom de bergingsvijver en het fietspad richting Woluwe.
Er werd maximaal gebruik gemaakt van streekeigen planten (heesters, bosplantsoenen, rozen). Om veiligheidsredenen werd rond de wachtvijver een afsluiting aangebracht met een hoogte van 1,20 m. Wachtvijver en wandelpark werden officieel ingehuldigd door het gemeentebestuur in juni 1996.
