Het huidige kasteelcomplex werd in 1903 opgetrokken door baron Fernand de Beeckman en zijn echtgenote Emilie Wittouck, wiens familie het in bezit kreeg na de Franse revolutie. Van de Middeleeuwse gebouwen is niets overgebleven door een brand rond 1900.
Na het overlijden van barones Wittouck (1947) wisselde het domein een aantal keer van eigenaar. Uiteindelijk baatte de vzw Gezondheidszorg er veertig jaar een centrum voor sociaal toerisme uit. Rond de millenniumwisseling was het weer tijd voor verandering. Het domein werd over enkele nieuwe eigenaars verdeeld: Group Oostappen (camping), Twin Properties (vakantiehuisjes en hotel), vzw Gezondheidszorg (kasteel) en Limburgs Landschap vzw (natuurbeheer en bezoekerscentrum).
