Het pittoreske kerkje van Sint-Jan-in-Eremo dateert van 1682 en is toegewijd aan Sint-Jan-de-Doper. Hier stond reeds in 984 een kerk, maar die werd verwoest tijdens de Sint-Elizabethsvloed van 1377. De buitenommegang in zeven staties illustreert het leven van Johannes-de-Doper. Er werd gebeden tegen kwalen als de stuipen, de 'seskens' en de vallende ziekte. Tegenover het kerkje staan 'Pinte ende Sproete', twee dochters van de haan Cantecleer uit het Reynaertverhaal. In de zuil staat een afdruk van Reynaert geprent. Oorspronkelijk heette dit plaatsje Sint-Jansdorp, later kwam de term 'in eremo' erbij, Latijn voor 'in de woestijn'.
