Genvundet vidunder Da Franz-Georg von Metternich-Ochsenhausen solgte Burg Reinhardstein i 1812, så det ud til, at dens skæbne var beseglet. Slottet blev derefter brugt som stenbrud. Hvad der 150 år senere var tilbage af bygningen, begejstrede professor Overloop. Lærde genopbyggede ruinen fra 1970 sten for sten. Som forbillede brugte han sammenlignelige bygninger i den nærliggende Eifel. I dag troner Burg Reinhardstein igen så stolt som i sin storhedstid på klippefremspringet. Indenfor slottet findes en imponerende samling af møbler, våben og vægtæpper, som kan besigtiges.
