Betegnelsen 'de Klot' henviser til en klump, en klat torv eller tørv. Mellem 1250 og 1750 blev der her udvundet tørv på næsten industriel skala.
Tørven blev transporteret til Roosendaal, Bergen-op-Zoom, Antwerpen.
Endvidere viser planer fra Første Verdenskrig, at Doodendraad også løb ved tårnet.
I forbindelse med de mange mindehøjtideligheder kan man også beundre en rekonstruktion af denne ledning ved foden af tårnet.
Fotoet med den hvide Klot er stadig et gammelt foto, tårnet er blevet renoveret i 2024.
