In Baarle-Nassau gab es einen sehr bemerkenswerten Mordfall, bei dem die Leiche in einer Kiste genau an der Grenze gefunden wurde. Die Grenze verläuft hier durch eine Villa, durch ein Kinderzimmer. Genau in diesem Kinderzimmer wurde die Kiste mit der Leiche darin gefunden.
In diesem Fall musste ein Landvermesser bestimmen, in welchem Land die Kiste am meisten stand, was entschied, welches Land die Ermittlungen führen würde; das stellte sich als die Niederlande heraus.
Die weißrussische Katrina Kanyak wurde am 18. Februar 2008 tot in einem Müllcontainer, versteckt in einer Holzkiste im Spielzimmer des Hauses an der Hoogbraak in Baarle-Hertog, aufgefunden.
