Sur la place du marché d'Eeklo se dresse la statue du Herbakker d'Eeklo de Leo De Buysere, faisant référence à la légende d'Eeklo. Selon la légende, on pouvait venir à Eeklo pour faire refondre sa tête. Une image de la refonte peut être trouvée sur le mur du centre culturel "De Herbakker", et on trouve également une image ici dans le Heemmuseum. Sur un socle en acier de 7 mètres de haut se trouve la sculpture conçue par l'artiste d'Oostwinkel Leo De Buysere et coulée en bronze par Dirk De Graeve de Hansbeke. Le chat n'a rien à voir avec la légende, mais une boulangerie sans chat était impensable.
