Ce monument est situé à côté de la Sint-Petrus en Pauluskerk sur la Sint-Petrus en Paulusplein à Ostende.
Le mémorial aux victimes de la guerre de 1922 de Pieter-Jan Braecke (1859-1938) se trouvait à l'origine sur la place devant l'église. Ce monument a été démoli en 1968. La statue de bronze avec le soldat a été déplacée à 'De Plate' (Musée historique d'Ostende). Les deux hauts-reliefs ("La fuite des pêcheurs d'Ostende 1914" et "La Libération 1918") ont d'abord été placés sur la place de l'église le long de la Vindictivelaan puis, en 2000, par August Michiels avec un nouveau buste du roi Albert Ier et Reine Elisabeth, à côté de l'église.
