Birkhoven est une forêt du parc et un ancien domaine situé à l'ouest d'Amersfoort. Il se trouve à la lisière de la Utrechtse Heuvelrug. La zone a une superficie d'environ 60 ha. À l'ouest, elle borde la réserve naturelle de Monnikenbos. Au sud, la limite est formée par la ligne de chemin de fer Amersfoort-Utrecht. Au nord, l'ancienne route entre Soest et Amersfoort constitue la limite. À l'est, elle est délimitée par la Barchman Wuijtierslaan et la réserve naturelle de Bokkeduinen. Le Zoo d'Amersfoort est situé dans la forêt de Birkhoven.
