Koningshooikt, frazione di Lier, dove l costruttore di autobus Van Hool iniziò come meccanico di biciclette a quello che oggi è un'azienda di autobus di fama mondiale. 3500 dipendenti lavorano quotidianamente alla costruzione di autobus e veicoli industriali.
Le tre municipalità (Walem, Koningshooikt, Lier) hanno anche una fortezza, che fa parte della cintura fortificata esterna attorno ad Anversa, costruita tra il 1877 e il 1905. Il forte di Walem è un'area naturale protetta dove da anni grandi colonie di pipistrelli trovano rifugio. Altre fortezze sono state gestite negli anni settanta come taverne con parco giochi o come pozzi da pesca.
