Niederelfringhausen ligt ten zuiden van de kernplaats Hattingen en ten oosten van Langenberg aan de landweg L 924 in het grensgebied van het markische Westfalen en het Bergische Land. Ten zuiden van de plaats ligt de stadswijk Oberelfringhausen; de Felderbach stroomt door beide plaatsen. De hoogste verhoging is de Immelberg met een hoogte van 277 m. Het landschap wordt het Hattinger Heuvelgebied of de Elfringhauser Zwitserland genoemd. In Niederelfringhausen zijn er het natuurgebied Niederbredenscheid/Elfringhausen en het natuurgebied Felderbachtal.
