Husum er hovedby i Nordfrieslands amt i Slesvig-Holsten. Theodor Storms digt Die Stadt gav Husum tilnavnet "grå by ved havet".
Husums byområde strækker sig på begge sider af Husumer Mühlenau. Den flyder gennem byområdet fra øst mod vest og mundes foran ind i Vadehavets dyb ved Hever. I det nordligt liggende uderområde blev Porrenkoog først opført i 1495 og Dockkoog i 1848 for at sikre Husums byområde. Ved begge koeger flyder Husumer Mühlenau sydligt forbi i det nordfrisiske Vadehavsområde. Husumer Mühlenau er adskilt fra Nordsøen af en havneslus, så vandet kun kan flyde begrænset ind i byområdet ved tidevand.
