Das Fort von Lier, in der belgischen Provinz Antwerpen, ist Teil der Stellung von Antwerpen. Die Entscheidung für die Stellung von Antwerpen wurde 1859 getroffen, als Antwerpen als nationales Reduit gewählt wurde. Die Idee dahinter war, dass Antwerpen am besten geeignet war, um als letzte Verteidigungslinie zu fungieren, bis Hilfe von Verbündeten eintreffen konnte. Das nationale Reduit sollte bestehen aus 1) einer Belagerungsumwallung, 2) einem Fortgürtel und 3) Unterwasseranlagen. Der Fortgürtel sollte aus etwa acht Brialmont-Festungen in einem 18 km langen Gürtel von Wijnegem bis Hoboken bestehen.
