Le château de Heinsberg est la ruine d'un château en bordure, construit sur une motte, dans la ville du comté de Heinsberg, en Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie. La zone appelée Burg- et Kirchberg a été transformée au XVIe siècle en une forteresse bastionnée.
La zone Burgberg/Kirchberg est l'une des plus grandes mottes conservées du Rhin. Un promontoire naturel s'étendant en bordure de la vallée de la Rur a été divisé par deux excavations, à savoir le Burgberg et le Kirchberg. Cela a conduit à une élévation artificielle d'environ 10 mètres à l'extrémité du promontoire, soit l'actuel Burgberg. En tant que basse-cour, le Kirchberg d'aujourd'hui a servi, sur son terrain, à l'édification de l'église collégiale gothique de St. Gangolf, après des constructions antérieures au XVe siècle. L'histoire de la construction du château n'est pas connue avec précision. Des fouilles archéologiques sur le Burgberg ont révélé des couches de sédimentation et de débris superposées allant du XIe au XVIe siècle.
