Nel mezzo di un'area protetta si trova lungo l'Ems l'ex monastero dei Cavalieri di Croce di Bentlage. Fondato nel 1437, il monastero fu trasformato in residenza nobiliare dal 1803 e oggi è di proprietà della città di Rheine. Ora, dopo un attento restauro, l'edificio protetto è diventato un centro culturale, un museo, un rifugio nel verde e una meta ambita per visitatori vicini e lontani.
