Ponferrada è un comune spagnolo di 64.674 abitanti situato nella provincia di León, comunità autonoma di Castiglia e León.
Città industriale, sorge su un altopiano a 543 metri di altitudine alla confluenza dei fiumi Boeza e Sil. Importante nodo stradale, capoluogo della comarca di el Bierzo, prende il nome da un ponte costruito nel XII secolo per consentire ai pellegrini di superare il fiume Sil nel loro cammino verso Santiago di Compostela.
