Buren è una città con una ricca storia e molte attrazioni. La città di Buren ottenne i diritti di città nel 1395. Le fortificazioni di Buren sono ancora per lo più intatte. A Buren sorgeva uno dei castelli più grandi dei Paesi Bassi: Huis Buren. Il castello fu venduto nel 1804 dal governo per essere demolito. Con le pietre vendute furono restaurate case e ne furono costruite di completamente nuove. Queste case vengono ora spesso chiamate 'case di castello' a Buren.
