Almazán is een gemeente en dorp in Spanje, gelegen in de provincie Soria, in de autonome gemeenschap Castilla en León. Met een bevolking van 5411 inwoners is het de op een na dichtstbevolkte gemeente van de provincie. De plaats wordt doorkruist door de rivier de Douro. De toponiem is afgeleid van het Arabisch المحصن «de versterkte», een veelvoorkomende naam in de Arabische toponymie.[1] Volgens andere auteurs zou het een Iberische of Euskérische oorsprong hebben en «in het bos» betekenen. Aan de andere kant veronderstelt Antonio Moya dat de etymologie te maken zou hebben met «appelboom».[2]
