10. Altes Dorf Wichelen
Ursprünglich lag Wichelen an der Paddenhoek, nahe der Scheldeschleife. Mit Ausnahme des Friedhofs und des alten Rathauses ist dort jetzt wenig von zu merken. Wohin ist dieses alte Dorf verschwunden? Die alte Kirche am Friedhof wurde im 19. Jahrhundert abgerissen, während eine neue Kirche an der Margote erbaut wurde. Es dauerte 5 Jahre, um diese Entscheidung zu treffen, und teilte die Wichelaars in zwei feindliche Lager. Danach wurde ein Teil des alten Dorfes am Ufer von der Schelde verschlungen.
Auf dem alten Friedhof finden Sie noch eine Quelle des heiligen Marculfus, eines vergessenen Heiligen, der gegen Ekzeme, Hautausschläge und verschiedene Drüsenerkrankungen verehrt wurde.
