Die Todt-Batterie ist nach Fritz Todt benannt. Er war ein General, aber vor allem ein Ingenieur und Bauingenieur des Dritten Reiches sowie ein guter Freund von Adolf Hitler. Letzterer vertraute ihm 1933 die Realisierung der Autobahnen in Deutschland an mit dem Ziel, die Arbeitslosigkeit zu verringern.
1935 gründete er eine paramilitärische Organisation: die OT (Organisation Todt). Er ließ die O.T. die Siegfriedlinie bauen mit Blick auf die Operation Seelöwe (die Invasion in England). Dieses Projekt wurde 1940 von Hitler abgesagt, und so wurde die Siegfriedlinie zu einem Teil der Verteidigungslinie Atlantikwall umgestaltet.
Am 8. Februar 1942 stürzte die Junkers JU 52, die Doktor Fritz Todt transportierte, auf mysteriöse Weise beim Start ab. Es gab keine Überlebenden. Die Batterie Siegfried wurde am 10. Februar 1942 zu Ehren ihres Bauherrn in Batterie Todt umbenannt.
