The Marum is the northeasternmost part of the Great Shooting Field (Brasschaat, Brecht and Wuustwezel) and has been a military domain since 1890. For a long time it was an inaccessible location for target practice, but since 2010 it has been open to the public to a limited extent as a safe walking zone. The area is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is managed by the Agency for Nature and Forests.
