Desde aquí hay una buena vista de la mina de lignito de Hambach. Hambach (en los municipios alemanes de Niederzier, Düren y Elsdorf, Rhein-Erft-Kreis) es la mina de lignito más grande de RWE. El lignito se extrae mediante minería a cielo abierto. En el lado noroeste de la mina se encuentra el vertedero Sofienhöhe, que se puede ver bien desde la dirección de Jülich. El punto más bajo de la superficie terrestre de Europa se encuentra en Hambach: 293 metros por debajo del nivel del mar. Este punto se encuentra 399 metros por debajo de la superficie original.
