Alla fine del XIX secolo nacque il progetto di una tramvia che collegasse Digione a Beaune. Il tracciato scelto dalle Hautes-Côtes doveva consentire lo sviluppo di una regione molto isolata ed evitare il difficile passaggio attraverso i vigneti tra Gevrey-Chambertin e Beaune. Furono necessari grandi lavori, in particolare tra Gevrey-Chambertin e Morey-Saint-Denis. Furono interrotti più volte a causa della guerra.
