Cadzand (in passato Cadesand) è uno degli insediamenti più antichi delle Fiandre Zelandesi. Si trovava su un'isola vicino allo Zwin ed era circondato da una "diga". Durante le mareggiate del 1394 e del 1398 (inondazione di Santa Elisabetta), grandi parti dell'"isola di Cadzand" scomparvero di nuovo in mare e furono nuovamente ricondotte in argine.
Cadzand è un antico villaggio anello medievale, con le case concentrate attorno alla chiesa (cattolica) romanico-gotica dei primi anni del XIV secolo. La chiesa è stata più volte restaurata ed è passata in mano protestante nel XVII secolo. È una chiesa "a navate" a due navate, in cui è ancora visibile la transizione dallo stile romanico al gotico. L'originaria grande torre fu abbattuta nel 1677 e sostituita da un "torretta" in legno. Nel 1930 fu costruita dall'amministrazione comunale di Cadzand l'attuale elegante torre.
