De priorij van Sint-Maarten werd gesticht door Willem van Sichem in 1408, nadien even gebruikt door de universiteit als pedagogie. In 1477 sloot de gemeenschap zich aan bij de Reguliere Kanunniken. Het domein omvatte een klooster, kloostergang en gotische kerk. De priorij werd opgeheven in 1784 en nadien gebruikt als kazerne en militair hospitaal. In 1803 werd de kerk en deel van het kloostercomplex gesloopt. Wat overbleef werd een cavaleriekazerne, die op haar beurt in 1960 werd afgebroken en plaats maakte voor sociale hoogbouw.
