Op het Stand van Scheveningen vertrok in februari 1602 een zeilwagen die ontworpen was door de Brugse wetenschapper en uitvinder Simon Stevin. De zeilwagen vertrok met 27 diplomaten naar de stranddorp Petten. Men deed er twee uur over, maar men reed wel aan een voor toen ongekende snelheid van 50km/u.
