Luxembourg By er hovedstaden i Storhertugdømmet Luxembourg, den tilsvarende region og kanton.
Luxembourg By blev grundlagt omkring år 963 med opførelsen af et slot over resterne af et gammelt romersk castel kaldet Lucilinburhuc. Det nye slot, ejet af Sigifred I, blev straks beskyttet med en første mur i 965. I år 1050 blev en ny ydre mur parallelt med den tidligere bygget for at beskytte den ekspanderende by.
