Det ligger øst for Lemmer og syd for Echten. I 2021 havde landsbyen 655 indbyggere. Under landsbyen hører størstedelen af bydelen Schoterzijl. Indtil 1. januar 2014 tilhørte Bantega kommunen Lemsterland. Bantega var den yngste landsby i kommunen Lemsterland. Efter Anden Verdenskrig blev bydelen Echtenpolder omdannet til landsbyen Bantega. Navnet stammer fra Bant, et sted der i 1413 blev skyllet væk af Zuiderzee, muligvis har der efterfølgende stået nogle huse, indtil de også forsvandt, i det 15. eller 16. århundrede.
