The whitewashed houses and stone castle walls stop abruptly on the bluff above the fertile valley of the Guadalete River. In 1962, Arcos was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in recognition of its exceptional architecture and impressive location. The old town is a maze of streets leading to a sandstone castle, the Castillo de los Arcos .
As you would expect from such a spectacular vantage point, there are thrilling views of the city and the rolling plain below.
