06 Sigüenza - Maranchón

Stage 6 (63km) runs from Sigüenza to Maranchón. The first part to Medinaceli is part of the route section Tierras de Frontera (Borderlands), the 252 km long section of the Camino that formed the border between the Christian north and the Moorish south of Spain during the time of El Cid (11th century). This part of the route largely runs eastward from Atienza to Calatayud. From Medinaceli, a southern variant is taken that runs via Maranchón to Molina de Aragon.

The first part of the stage runs along quiet roads beside a railway line and climbs gradually. To visit Medinaceli, there is a climb to be made. The town was already significant in Roman times, as evidenced by the triumphal arch that stands at the entrance of the city. Also, during the Moorish period, the fortress played an important role because of its location. The town still breathes the medieval atmosphere.
After Medinaceli, a long climb is required until just a few km before Maranchón, where the top at about 1350m is reached. Maranchón is small and has just enough facilities to spend the night.
