Karel van de Woestijne nació el 10 de marzo de 1878 en la Sint-Lievensstraat 348, ahora Sint-Lievenspoortstraat 264, "una calle amplia, vacía y pálida" ("Paidia"). Era el mayor de los cuatro hijos del platero Alexander Joannes y Antigona Sielbo.
Durante la Feria del Libro de 1960, Miel Kersten descubrió una lápida de ardósia para los Escritores Católicos de Flandes Oriental el domingo 28 de marzo, esculpida por Volckaert de Gante: "En esta casa nació el poeta Karel van de Woestijne el 10-3-1878."
