Los árabes construyeron una fuente en una fuente de agua en la aldea de Alqamah, que ya fue descrita en 1154 .
Un fuerte terremoto ocurrido a finales del siglo XIV parece haber dañado la fuente, que posteriormente fue reconstruida. Con el traslado de la vida urbana en torno al castillo surgió una actividad de pastoreo de ovejas en torno a la fuente , generándose la necesidad de construir un abrevadero . La fachada tiene dos lavabos, dos desagües (cannoli) y pilastras rematadas por capiteles. El abrevadero, realizado con piedras de calcarenita travertinoide, fue construido en la primera mitad del siglo XIX.
