Radio Herne est la radio locale de la ville de Herne. Elle a été lancée en 1990 sous le nom de Radio Herne 90acht et a reçu sa licence de l'Institution des médias du Nordrhein-Westphalie. Le rédacteur en chef était jusqu'en 2013 Wolfgang Tatzel, qui a rejoint Radio Vest. Depuis juillet 2013, Christine Schindler est la rédactrice en chef de la station. Dans le cadre d'une campagne de marketing de la société exploitante Westfunk, la station a reçu son nouveau nom le 1er avril 2008. Depuis le relaunch de son programme le 11 janvier 2010, la station se nomme uniquement Radio Herne.
