Il porte le nom de Manuel Prudencio de Molviedro . architecte qui, commandé par l'assistant de Séville, marquis de Montéréal, transforma l'ancienne Mancebía en zone de la lagune au XVIIIe siècle .
Depuis le Moyen Âge, elle s'appelle Plaza de la Laguna de la Mancebía. En 1848, elle s'appelait Plaza de Molviedro et elle s'appelle encore ainsi aujourd'hui.
Aujourd'hui (2024), la Plaza de Molviedro est un quartier résidentiel sans résidents, un hôtel sera propriétaire des bâtiments.
