Il bacino idrico sbarrava il Rappbode con la sua diga alta 106 metri, la più grande in Germania. Con un volume di 109,08 milioni di m³, la Rappbodetalsperre è il più grande bacino idrico delle Montagne Harz. La Rappbodetalsperre è il secondo bacino idrico più grande in Germania dopo la Grande Dhüntalsperre.
