La battaglia di Alcañiz portò il 23 maggio 1809 alla sconfitta dell'esercito francese del maggiore generale Louis Gabriel Suchet da parte di una forza spagnola sotto il generale Joaquín Blake y Joyes.
La vittoria è attribuita all'eccellente comando dell'artiglieria spagnola da parte del generale Martín García-Loygorri, che permise alle colonne francesi di chiudersi e successivamente di indebolirle gravemente con salve ben mirate. Loygorri fu successivamente promosso a feldmaresciallo e divenne il primo ufficiale di artiglieria a ricevere la Croce Laureata di San Ferdinando.
