The Helmholtz-Gymnasium Bonn is a public secondary school with a bilingual German-English branch and a natural sciences branch in Bonn-Duisdorf.
The Helmholtz-Gymnasium was opened in 1961 under the leadership of Wilhelm Schüttler as a gymnasium of the Duisdorf district. A year later, it was officially named after Hermann von Helmholtz. The school building was designed by the Düsseldorf architect Bruno Lambart, while the design of the green and sports facilities was handled by the office of the Bonn landscape architect Heinrich Raderschall. The school was significantly shaped from 1976 to 1990 by its principal Leo Klingen. Since the 2000/2001 school year, the Dr. Leo Klingen Prize has been awarded to students who have distinguished themselves through exceptional academic performance or social engagement, in his honor, in addition to the Abitur. From 1990 to 2012, the gymnasium was led by Martin Berg. Since 2013, Dorothee von Hoerschelmann has been the principal.
