En el siglo XV fue capilla, hospital y cofradía.
Fue fundado como monasterio en la primera mitad del siglo XVI y sus obras fueron dirigidas por el bachiller en arte Alonso de Baena. La portada principal es plateresca y la puerta anexa es gótica con arco florentino.
El interior de la iglesia consta de una sola nave, en la que se han conservado importantes fragmentos del estilo del siglo XVI .
