Estàtua inaugurada l'11 de setembre de 1865 en honor a Edward JENNER, el descobridor de la vacuna contra la verola , portada a França pel Dr. William WOODVILLE durant la Revolució Francesa.
Després d' haver estat encarregada el 1857 per la Société des Sciences Industrielles de París, l'estàtua va ser exposada a la Cour Carrée del Louvre el 1858 i després al pati de l'Escola de Medicina de París . Va ser inaugurat el 1865. La ciutat va pagar el pedestal.
El 1907, el monument es va traslladar a Prins Albertlaan, sota les muralles de la ciutat. 1942: L'estàtua havia de ser fosa durant la guerra, però es va salvar perquè estava feta d'un aliatge pintat. El repintat actual és recent. En aquella època, Brochon era un fabricant de ferro colat (fàbrica de Donjeux a Alt Marne). L'estàtua podria haver estat feta de ferro fos.
