Estatua inaugurada el 11 de septiembre de 1865 en honor a Edward JENNER, el descubridor de la vacuna contra la viruela , traída a Francia por el Dr. William WOODVILLE durante la Revolución Francesa.
Después de haber sido encargada en 1857 por la Société des Sciences Industrielles de París, la estatua fue expuesta en la Cour Carrée del Louvre en 1858 y luego en el patio de la Escuela de Medicina de París . Fue inaugurado en 1865. La ciudad pagó el pedestal.
En 1907, el monumento se trasladó a Prins Albertlaan, bajo las murallas de la ciudad. 1942: La estatua debía ser fundida durante la guerra, pero se salvó porque estaba hecha de una aleación pintada. El repintado actual es reciente. En aquella época, Brochon era un fabricante de hierro fundido (fábrica de Donjeux en Alto Marne). La estatua podría haber sido hecha de hierro fundido.
