Statue indviet den 11. september 1865 til ære for Edward JENNER, opdageren af vaccinen mod kopper, bragt til Frankrig af Dr. William WOODVILLE under den Franske Revolution.
Efter at være blevet bestilt i 1857 af Société des Sciences Industrielles i Paris, blev statuen udstillet i Cour Carrée i Louvre i 1858 og derefter i gården ved Medicinsk Skole i Paris. Den blev indviet i 1865. Byen betalte for soklen.
I 1907 blev monumentet flyttet til Prins Albertlaan, under byens mure. 1942: Statuen skulle smeltes ned under krigen, men blev reddet, da den var lavet af en malet legering. Den nuværende genmaler er nyere. På den tid var Brochon en producent af støbejern (fabrikken i Donjeux i Alt Marne). Statuen kunne have været lavet af støbejern.
